[SUNDAY SNACK Volume 3]: CHANEL sweater weather; Lori Hirschleifer's enviable closet; Two big brands getting into conscious collections; Erewhon's addicting candles
Substack is telling me this post is too long for email, so it’s best to click through to play it safe.
It’s already CHANEL Sweater Weather at The Real Real in Brentwood, CA
I’m hearing sighs of relief from Angelenos this week about the mild temperature drops, currently hovering at highs of 78 F vs 88 F. I’ll take it. Just a month ago when it was in the low 90’s, I ran to donate all my vintage sweaters and couldn’t even fathom wearing knits. I just saw this at The Real Real in Brentwood and think I jumped the gun on nixing sweaters so soon.
This gorgeous CHANEL sweater is from Virginie Viard’s 2022 collection.
If you know me, you know I gasped when I spotted the details on this cashmere sweater. I love a good ironic embellishment as it is and took more close ups of them than you could imagine. It’s $6,200 currently, marked down to $4,960.
Lori Hirschleifer’s Closet
If you have a thing for CHANEL, you will love Lori Hirshleifer’s IG. Her family’s shop, HIRSHLEIFERS, opened as a Brooklyn furrier in 1910 and grew into what is now a treasure trove in Manhasset, New York. Take note of her CHANEL shopping basket, which leads me into a story I’ve been itching to bring up, in the next section.
I love small Chanel accessories. When I was a field producer on Betsey Johnson’s TV series (what a trip), she wore a yellow mini Chanel bag attached to a crazy leather belt, almost daily. I gave a little scoop about working with her in this post about a holiday gift she made me.
Naturally, Lori’s closet is layers of luxury, limited editions and rarities. I bet those top shelf Chanel bags have seen some pretty fun adventures.
Farfetch and Fred Segal: Conscious Collections
Back to that Chanel basket holding her accessories: it’s from 2014 and leads me into something I’ve been noticing among luxury retailers. I’ve touched on designers getting into resale to reclaim their past pieces, such as Balenciaga, which I discussed in this former post about Cash for Clothes.
FARFETCH quietly entered the conscious clothing game well over a year ago and just announced the results of their THIRD ANNUAL CONSCIOUS LUXURY TRENDS REPORT, which found:
In 2022, 27% of FARFETCH customers purchased at least one Conscious product, a significant increase from 16% in 2021 — at an average price of $4,626.
The retailer has a Second Life service enticing customers to trade their specific designer brands for credit.
They currently have this Chanel XXL Shopping Basket like Lori’s listed at $100,000!
3 Conscious Attainable Options
Even though this is listed at an eye popping $100k, I was surprised to scan some other really competitive prices on a few things I’d actually add to my future cart, like these three things that are me. (They have tens of thousands to choose from, if not more. Chanel, alone, offered up over 4,700 conscious listings!) I can’t scan the bulk, but you’ll have fun if you try it.
CHANEL Tweed Phone Holder for $2,413
BOTTEGA VENETA Candy Cassette Shoulder bag for $1,151 - just like the one I spotted on the man in this street fashion shot at the bottom of my MANBAG post.
FOUND by Fred Segal
Here’s another Luxury Retailer with a conscious collection at their Sunset Blvd location that I shopped for the first time last week.
FOUND by Fred Segal can be shopped here. They had a rack of very extreme things, but it was the men’s collection that had a consistent cool to it.
Newsflash: Erewhon in Beverly Hills has incredible $52 Candles.
I wanted to list these before word gets out. If you’re not in LA, Erewhon is a highly curated, certified organic grocery shop with a cult following — and they just added these fun $52 candles at their Beverly Hills location. I’m a very picky candle person and the ones I loved were jasmine blends and the more masculine woodsy vibes. Have fun shopping online and take a close look at the hyped smoothies. ;)
This Gjusta Bakery baguette below isn’t online, but it’s a fun $2 find at their Beverly Hills location:
This week, I’m taking you back to the beginning - my street fashion and New York Fashion Week roots - to share the stories behind secret shots I’ve never shared. IYKYK
