Welcome to SUNDAY SNACK [formerly known as SNACK SIZE], a new weekend series featuring a variety of flavors. Do you want these to land in your inbox? Subscribe for 20% off. Substack tells me this post is too long to include everything in the email, so paid subscribers should click through. ;)
Today’s VOLUME 1 is about [culture] what I’m watching on TV, [tech] a big reveal Apple is announcing soon, [fashion] Another Gucci in opening in LA and, of course, [food] snacks. I even bought some cool Japanese candies to take that first photo above — but ate most of them. In my defense, I did leave some good ones.
The fun thing (for me, at least) is that I’ll ingest new snacks every weekend for the lead graphic. I’m that dedicated. In case you’re wondering where I got them, I’m pulling out my very first vlogging video from 2009 so you can join me at Mitsuwa Marketplace in LA, below. It’s a supermarket with an unassuming food court, Japanese magazines including VOGUE Japan and no shortage of little tchotchkes.
Behind the Scenes trivia: My mother was visiting and that’s her food in the shopping basket under my hand. She loved that place. You can hear my heels clacking in the parking lot. Back then, I wore heels literally every day, even to CVS. I didn’t own a pair of flats until I dropped a laptop [corner] on my foot and broke a toe. I’ve since split the difference and only buy heels up to around 2 inches, so that’s a good compromise. Last year, I got these Bottega Veneta low leopard heels ($27) and these Balenciaga wedges ($36) on the cheap.
I want to reiterate for the new subscribers (hi!) that even though I work in TV, public access vibes will forever be my jam. For that reason, the production quality will never surpass above or below, intentionally.
