Welcome to Weird of the Week, an Easily Entertained series you can expect every Friday, with either video or stills of fun finds. Sign up for a free trial or consider an upgrade.
I’m going to try to commit to ‘programming’ these other days as I get my substack sea legs: Wednesdays will be street fashion stories and Saturdays will be lifestyle stories around home comfort hacks. I’ll fill you in on the other days in January.
If you’re new here, I’m Jerri, an LA Executive Producer with comedy and pop culture roots and a camera roll bursting with 100,000 photos (well, 20k of those are on hard drives) and videos that I’m folding into topical stories.
Here are fun finds from the last couples weeks. Some of these stories may even come in handy during awkward holiday gatherings.
This week is Meta, Colette’s Comeback and Spotify mocking me about my Wrapped 100.
1. Mural ads are big business in LA and I spotted @ColossalMedia making moves
In the above video, this artist never broke his focus. (His hair! I loved his double pony buns). LA is famous for their mural ads and it’s always fun to spot them going up and this one was in the Beverly Grove area.
I am going to be posting most of these videos ‘as shot’ with my preference of natural sound. When I’m on the clock producing for someone else, I obsess about getting this “nat sound” and the transitional visuals or moments that aren’t supposed to be on camera (people going about life between scenes). When I watch a docuseries, I want to see what they were doing before our cameras got there and I try to get that in the can. This moment was literally Meta and the others followed suit.
2. Colette Paris immortalized in a documentary, FREE today!
Although the iconic French shop Colette closed their doors in 2017, the curatorial mother daughter duo, and their staff of 200, have been immortalized in a new documentary, hyped by HIGHSNOBIETY. You have until 12/25/22 to watch this FREE and then you can buy it on VIMEO for a few bucks. It’s jam packed with celebrities, but what will Kanye say??
It was an incredible doc, even if you don’t know the famed shop. Colette was all the rage when it opened in 1997 and was #1 on my list when I visited Paris in 1999. We were in a rush to get somewhere on time, so I bought something small, just to get the bag.
I just bought this iconic shopping bag for $9. Score!
Of course they have NFTs.
3. Spotify Mocked me about my Top 100. Was it just me?
I was embarrassed to share my WRAPPED playlist with my friends because SPOTIFY mocked me. Right? Am I imagining? Did they mock you, too?
In the end, I finally felt heard:
Vindicated. Friends, how can I follow your playlists? I’m JerriTV.
Tomorrow, I have a special video card for all subscribers and micro art prints for paid subscribers!
They won’t let me embed my wrapped list, but here’s another favorite playlist with modern psychedelia that’s a go-to I like to loop.
What are you doing for the holidays?
