NICKI MINAJ — I’ll be taking liberties with the time continuum to jump between past, present, futurist and meta stories. I wanted to start with a bang so you can experience the chaos of shooting at New York Fashion Week. In 2014, at the height of the street fashion frenzy, we spotted Nicki Minaj’s car pulling up at Alexander Wang’s fashion show. Every photographer goes out of their way, geographically, to attend his shows (and Marc Jacobs’ shows, too) because they always have the best dressed arrivals and exits, plus a number of celebs. It’s interesting to watch Nicki’s progression of expressions in the stills below. Take a look.
Ok, so here’s how it works: when a photographer is trying to get someone to turn around for a shot, we ask for an ‘over the shoulder.’ If you listen very carefully, the man behind me is asking for one, softly. That’s me asking for her to turn back our way - and it eventually worked!
LEGACY - I had lunch with a writer friend recently who has the option to retire and I asked what he considered to be his legacy. I thought it was something I should really ask myself, too. I’ve captured over 100,000 photos and videos in LA and New York and need to release these stories into the wild. Expect the production quality to be a little down and dirty and not overly polished.
