Dailies: Designer Discoveries at Melrose Place
The Real Real, That Gucci Billboard and the Tissue Papers at Isabel Marant
Lately, I’ve been making plans in one single area, primarily to ease the self inflicted pressures of over planning (which has usually led to to over spending, mkkkk). Friday, I mapped out all my Melrose Place errands and will show you some fun finds at a couple of the higher end shops.
Welcome to my new free and paid followers. Very happy to have you here! I am an LA based Pop Culture Producer and Getty Images repped Video Journalist and will be adding a lot of lo-fi audio + video as the year progresses. Why lo-fi? If I over plan production, I will fall so far behind that the content won’t be as fresh, so let’s agree on run and gun to keep it timely. I’ve tried to spice up a few of today’s photos, though. :-D
I popped into The Real Real and was hyperventilating over this yellow Louis Vuitton weekender. That’s a cute chain idea, btw.
When I say this, know that I don’t feel the need to own a lot of designer things (my Balenciaga work bag collection and vintage designer shoes are more than complete.) It’s usually the colorways and textures I like at this shop.
I especially love that older pre-loved pieces later earn a limited edition vibe, by default. I was just reading that Air Jordan Pandas are no big deal anymore because everyone’s wearing the recent re-issue.
Even though I was early to predict the resale craze that I had mentioned here (and once participated in curating and flipping), it’s odd that modern resale items are becoming so coveted that designers are trying to get theirs back in house to resell themselves. (I have a long story coming about this.) I’m fascinated by recommerce, especially that big design houses didn’t foresee this.
Ok, on to more favorite finds:
Bottega Veneta’s Tote is as big as a house. It would look so much cooler hand held, without the strap. I look at this and get the same feeling as trying to walk up a down escalator. It’s really the crispy white with green contrast for me.
Louis Vuitton’s Dalmation Bag was an interesting oddity.
I crossed the breezeway into the men’s dept and these two sneakers stood out: OFF WHITE x Air Jordan 1 and the green Louis Vuittons coming through on St. Patrick’s Day.
BTW, I love their curated ceramics collection and also have a thing for vintage ceramic decor.
That GUCCI Billboard
This GUCCI billboard used to be all Marc Jacobs all the time before they closed their popular corner stores. This highlights their Jackie bag re-releases, but I’m not feeling them, yet I do love Dakota Johnson. Her house is my dream house and I’ve watched her Architectural Digest tour no less than five times in the past year.
Isabel Marant and MARANT Men
Let’s head around the corner to this Parisian designer. Please note that Isabel Marant’s courtyard is epic.
I popped in, hoping they’d have their new crescent shaped, studded bags displayed like other locations in their IG stories, printed on festive balloons. They didn’t, but I spotted something even better.
In January, Isabel Marant debuted their new branding. To note, their men’s line is now just called MARANT.
Can we stop and appreciate the hangers? I know they thought I was such a weirdo taking photos of the hangers, but I got the shot. (I turn them into stock images that media companies then license).
This is the area they use to wrap purchases and I gasped when I spotted the cooler updated tissue paper. It took me a minute of snapping photos to figure out that the women’s is on the left and the aforementioned men’s MARANT branding is on the right. As an aside, of the few brands I follow on social, she has the best content team.
In contrast, below is a shot of a mini bag with their prior branding, from a sale bracelet I purchased years ago.
Check out Isabel Marant’s recent unisex fashion show.
After Melrose Place, I wanted to walk home and happened into Japanese owned vintage shop SHABON. The next day was all about stocking up on groceries for rainy days lockdowns and I’ll circle back to that and my obsession with cute food… because I am easily entertained.
