[SUNDAY SNACK Volume 5]: Shiona Turini, Beyoncé, Style Crushes, Media Candy and Beauty Bites
PLUS Beyoncé's Movie!
[Sunday Snack: Volume 5] My sisters are encouraging me to populate my life with more flowers and plants, so above is evidence that I’m listening and also just adopted someone’s jade plant for my back yard from my facebook’s buynothing group. Having flowers in my eyeline has been pure bliss. I discovered these $3 sale flowers on the down low at a Beverly Hills Ralphs and it’s making me want to infuse some yellow into my wardrobe as I look for a new style, which I get into below.
This post has shapeshifted into a metamorphosis theme and conscious efforts to make change, whether that intent is micro or macro.
I’ve been working on a separate post about stylist and costume designer, Shiona Turini, but am mixing it into today’s post based on her latest news.
She’s a former fashion editor I’ve been “stylespotting” since shooting New York Fashion Weeks in the 2010’s. Below, she was wearing a Marc Jacobs cashmere Coke Sweater and was usually always smiling or laughing. She made headlines when she gave up fashion world stability to become an indie stylist - and now - guess which icon she’s styling?
Beyoncé!
Dangerously in Love - You have to click through above to read Turini’s full tribute about her ‘otherwordly experience’ as Beyoncé’s stylist and costume designer, but I’ve added it below, too. The looks have made headlines, especially this custom Loewe.
I lost my mind when she posted this below PUCCI costume last weekend, started a draft about it and it seemed like everything I touched last week was subconsciously based on these color schemes - including that flower bouquet, with the reds and blue hues you can’t quite see since they’re out of frame.
What I love the most about Shiona’s career — is that she prioritizes vacations!
Red Alert: The Beyoncé Movie!
STYLE CRUSHES + Social Media Saves
I’m tired of black and denim and making a conscious effort to cull a new look. I’m seeking a very subtle style in the vein of chill with a twist - the twist being either one (a) colorful (b) designer or (c) fashion forward twist or (d) a statement accessory or shoe. I also have three narrow drawers full of rubies, tourmaline and emerald beads to make some fun statement things. I have to get over the fear of re-piercing my ears.
I think these people are my new vibe:
I spotted her in Studio City and she has her very unique name embroidered on the other [private] side. I loved the Chanel loafers, too. So chic.
This is what I mean by colorful twists:
I bought this Margiela bag [retail $2400] for such a steal in 2021, yet it’s still in the dust bag. The bag is not that big in real life, but it’s definitely gigantic.
I definitely don’t feel safe carrying loud bags in LA anymore, so I won’t venture far with this one. (I pretty much only use a variety of fanny packs - with zip ties on the buckles - since the pandemic and rampant thefts.) I know waist packs are not the best look, but I can’t worry about it.
Hmm. It’s still bigger than a human torso, though. This shot is more accurate:
Doh!
Amy Smilovic is my new spirit animal!
Amy Smilovic is TIBI’s founder and creative director. Her Gucci hose is a great example of a designer twist I’d love.
I’ll show you a local guy soon - if he agrees to let me post his photos - who did a cool similar thing with hosiery.
She breaks down her POV on style categories below, plus a thrifted art haul, beauty bites, media snacks and a Marni controversy for paid subscribers.
